Surf to http://www.tinycorelinux.com for a pointer to the latest (tiny) iso. At the time of writing, the iso is directly available from http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/tinycorelinux/2.x/release/

Suppose your iso file is named tinycore_2.3.iso. In the directory containing this file, give the command

After a short pause, a boot screen comes up. At the prompt ("boot: "), enter tinycore noapic. To add a nice framebuffer, use tinycore noapic vga=791. The noapic option seems to be essential on Ubuntu 9.04.

When TinyCore starts, the application browser should be able to see the internet, connect, and acquire extensions. This is worth saying because some other standard network connectivity tests fail (like ping, or trying to connect to other machines on the local network). This is a standard feature of the default network setup in Qemu, which is described elsewhere.
